Prime Real Estate. . . On Your Business Card

by Stephanie Bryant

Compared to your logo, it’s the second most important representation of yourself and what you do. Your logo is like the welcome mat to your brand and this is what makes her want to open the door to what you offer.

It’s your business card and it’s crucial.

Don’t stop reading, thinking “I already have one.” Ask yourself: Is it interesting? Memorable? Just blah?

{Please don’t tell me you don’t have one. There are all kinds of crazy good deals at Tiny Prints right now. No excuses. Get them now for Blissdom ’11.}

It’s ok to talk about yourself. You know you. I don’t – yet. That’s part of your job. Introduce me. I might really like – and need – who you are, what you know, how you’re gifted.

But remember the most ignored space – the back of your business card. It’s usually wasted space, but can be prime real estate, where you share your story. For heaven’s sake, don’t leave it blank. Here is the front of my card and then surprise, the back of my card tells what I love to do.

From my own experience, at least 80% of people that I’ve handed my card to glance at the front and immediately flip it over. Surprise! They read the back and a conversation naturally occurs, usually asking ‘What’s a Lid Lifter? or ‘How are you a Blogger BFF?’ Now it’s more than an introduction or a swap of nametags. You’ve started a conversation that can really lead somewhere.

It’s a beautiful piece of property. Build on it.

    Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing this! My shop cards are in desperate need of a facelift, and the back is woefully blank. Hopefully I’ll be changing that soon!

    Of course I love you. You leave Grace & His Sweet Mercy behind as your calling card. Memorable without words. Yes! I’m ready to plan At The Farm with Ann. (smile)
